ShyneShyne is an odd one in the series. Mostly I encounter my Ontmoetingen in a situation where I will have to deal with the guy frequently. Often I need some time before I realize I have met an Ontmoeting. Not so with Shyne. I was having dinner in a restaurant and Shyne was our waiter. I thought he was cute, but that happens all the time, so that's no reason to think about the Ontmoetingen project. But there was something distinctly different and authentic about him, and that strongly appealed to me. I told my partner he would be perfect for the Ontmoetingen project and my partner said "why don't you ask him?". Like I would ever do that. But my partner insisted, and as we say in Holland: "you've got no, you can get yes" ("nee heb je, ja kan je krijgen"). So I asked, and he immediately agreed to pose. |
Maybe a cheap shot at the sound of his name, but he really did shine like Apollo to me.
Shyne himself requested to be portrayed as a faun. He reminded me of the Barberini faun, a classical statue of a faun completely surrendering to the joys his body could give. A true treasure.
Probably the most famous faun is the mischievous Puck from Shakespeare's Midsummer night's dream. Shyne did have a sense of mischief.
While it is only too easy to focus on the double meaning of "Queen" Shyne actually did have something very regal about him. And not the machismo version of royalty. He felt like a true Queen.
Another faun, this time I really went overboard with the manipulation of digital software.
